Spring has officially arrived, and with it comes a renewed sense of energy, hope, and wagging tails here at our rescue.

As the days grow longer and the sunshine gets warmer, our dogs are making the most of every moment outdoors. The kennels are filled with excitement as they stretch their legs, chase toys, and soak up the fresh spring air. One of the biggest highlights this season? Our doggy pool is back in action! From playful splashes to full-on zoomies through the water, it’s safe to say the pups are loving every second of it.

While the season brings fun and lighter days, our mission remains the same. Every day, we continue working hard to rescue dogs in need, provide them with care, and help them find the loving, forever homes they deserve. Each wagging tail and happy bark is a reminder of why we do what we do.

Spring is also a time of new beginnings—and for many of our dogs, that means a fresh start with a family of their own. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing them go from uncertain beginnings to confident, joyful companions.

Eva, if you only knew how safe you are now…

This beautiful girl came to us through Saving Ukulele in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, and her journey has been nothing short of incredible. In December 2025, thanks to Maria of Saving Ukulele, her foster mom Laura, and our Flight Angel Jamie, Eva made her way to Sam’s Place—and we are truly honored to have her.

When she first arrived, Eva was understandably very nervous and shut down after such a big transition. But in her foster home, she began to bloom—slowly learning that toys are fun, other dogs are friends, and people can be kind 🧸🐶

And she’s continued that progress with us:

✨ 12/16/25: Zoomies unlocked! We were so excited to see her start to feel safe enough to play and let loose.
✨ 1/27/26: Steady progress every day. She’s running and playing with her dog friends and “her people,” and we’re learning her secret love language… chicken 😄
✨ 3/10/26: Eva has been on some offsite adventures and absolutely amazed us! From Tractor Supply to PetSmart, even meeting horses and cats at a nearby barn—she handled all the sights and sounds like a pro. So proud of you, Eva!

Eva is still learning to trust at her own pace, and we are in no rush. She will need multiple visits before formal adoption, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as she continues to open up.

We know she is worth every bit of the wait—and we already love her so much.

Happy New Year!

2025 was an amazing year for Sam’s Place Canine Rescue! Since opening in March, we welcomed almost 60 dogs and helped over 45 find their forever homes. We spayed or neutered 40 dogs and worked with over 15 rescues and shelters. We look forward to growing these numbers and working with our rescue partners and shelters to save even more amazing souls in 2026. Thank you for following and supporting our journey!

From all of us at Sam’s Place – we wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

To date, we have welcomed 37 dogs to Sam’s Place and adopted out 24 (& counting!). We have also neutered/spayed 28 of these dogs. The remaining were altered upon intake. We are so grateful for the opportunity to change the lives of these sweet souls. We are also thankful to be part of a large network of hundreds of rescues in NC. Together, we are all doing our part to decrease the overpopulation and help ensure these animals all receive the care and love they deserve!

Shortly after opening in March, we welcomed our first two dogs, Benji and Luna. Quickly followed by Marge, Rastus, and Tilly. Luna was adopted soon after arrival, but Benji took some time to warm up to us before adoption. Rastus and Tilly had to have surgery to fix leg fractures.. After a bit of rest and recovery, they found a loving home together and Marge found a home in Maine!
